Estimados participantes y amig@s:Coaí, Inc. Desea informar que hoy 30 de septiembre de 2011, que la Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention (DHAP) de los Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) no aprobó los nuevos fondos para continuar con el programa Tanamá que por los últimos 5 años ha dado servicios de prevención de VIH/SIDA que tanto necesita la comunidad de jóvenes transgéneros y transexuales. Lamentamos que CDC no hayan reconocido el impacto que esta decisión traerá sobre el VIH en Puerto Rico. No sabemos la razón por la cual no continuaron con la otorgación de fondos ya que no ha habido ninguna comunicación de parte del DHAP. La organización realizó gestiones para recibir información sobre el estatus o razones para la no elegibilidad de nuestra propuesta bajo el Freedom of Information Act. A la fecha de hoy DHAP no ha cumplido con esta petición. Puerto Rico ha sido seleccionado como uno de las jurisdicciones de mayor impacto del VIH, sin embargo la otorgación de fondos para el trabajo de organizaciones de base comunitaria por parte del CDC se mantiene limitado a una otorgación a Puerto Rico por cada llamado de propuesta, siendo contradictorio al plan de implementación de la Estrategia Nacional de VIH/SIDA de la administración del Presidente Barack Obama.Desde el 30 de septiembre de 2006 se alcanzó a la comunidad de jóvenes transgéneros y transexuales provenientes de los municipios de  Aguas Buenas, Barceloneta, Bayamón, Carolina, Canóvanas, Cataño, Ceiba, Comerío, Corozal, Dorado, Fajardo, Florida, Guaynabo, Humacao , Juncos, Loíza, Luquillo, Manatí, Morovis, Naguabo, Naranjito, Río Grande, San Juan, Toa Alta, Toa Baja, Trujillo Alto, Vega Alta, Vega Baja & Yabucoa, ofreciendo talleres educativos, de reducción de riesgo y más importante aún la oportunidad de acceder la prueba de VIH, convencional o rápida, en un ambiente de respeto y sensibilidad. Estaremos buscando fondos para atender la necesidad de estos servicios. Una vez se renueve el programa les estaremos notificando a través de nuestras páginas electrónicas. Coaí, Inc. regrets to inform you, today September 30, 2011, that the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention (DHAP) from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) did not renew our funds to continue with this the services offered thru Tanamá program.

We regret that CDC failed to recognize how this decision will impact HIV in Puerto Rico. The organization has no information and do not know why funding were not granted since there has been no communication from the DHAP. The organization took steps to request information about the status or reasons for the ineligibility of our proposal under the Freedom of Information Act but as of today DHAP has not complied with this request. Puerto Rico has been selected as one of the jurisdictions with the greatest impact of HIV; however the granting of funds for the work of community-based organizations by the CDC remains limited to one approval of funding for Puerto Rico for each national Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), being contradictory to the National HIV / AIDS Strategy Implementation Plan of President Barack Obama .

Since September 30, 2006 Tanamá reached participants of the young transgender and transsexual the community coming from the municipalities of Aguas Buenas, Barceloneta, Bayamón, Carolina, Canóvanas, Cataño, Ceiba, Comerío, Corozal, Dorado, Fajardo, Florida, Guaynabo, Humacao , Juncos, Loíza, Luquillo, Manatí, Morovis, Naguabo, Naranjito, Río Grande, San Juan, Toa Alta, Toa Baja, Trujillo Alto, Vega Alta, Vega Baja & Yabucoa, while offering educational workshops, risk reduction and more importantly the opportunity to access HIV testing, conventional or rapid, in an environment of respect and sensitivity. We will be seeking funds to meet the need for these services. Once the program is renewed we notified all of you through our websites. The Board of Directors, José Joaquín Rodríguez Mulinelli (Executive Director), Maritza Quinones (Administrative Assistant), Angela Aponte Cantres (Secretary), Peter M. Shepard Rivas (Program Director), Juan M.
